• House prices in the latest three months (August-October) were 2.8% higher than in the preceding three months (May-July). The quarterly rate of change increased from September’s 2.0%; a little above the 2.5% average over the first nine months of the year. • Prices in the three months to October were 9.7% higher than in the same three months a year earlier. This was higher than September’s 8.6%, and the highest since August 2014 (9.7%). • Mortgage approvals on an upward trend despite falling in September. The volume of mortgage approvals for house purchases – a leading indicator of completed house sales – increased by 4% between Quarter 2 and Quarter 3 despite a 2.5% decline in September.
